Dr Isak Burger
Isak Burger was waarskynlik een van die langsdienende kerkleiers in die land. Hy is in April 1988 verkies as president van die AGS. Hy is sedertdien telkens weer herkies - ook met die kerk se eenwording in 1996. Hy aanvaar sy emeritaat in September 2016.

Hy is gebore op 10 Mei 1951 in Kaapstad, het grootgeword in Pretoria en sy teologiese studies asook doktorsgraad voltooi aan dieTeologiese fakulteit van die NG kerk aan die Universiteit van Pretoria.

 

Hy bedien twee gemeentes (Balfour en Witbank-sentraal) vanaf 1974 voordat hy in 1982 as registrateur en dosent van die AGS Teologiese Kollege aangestel word.

 

Isak Burger het veral bekend geword as prediker en later ook as skrywer. Hy tree by verskillende tussenkerklike byeenkomste, nasionale en internasionale konferensies op. Hy is skrywer en medeskrywer van 'n hele aantal boeke en talle artikels in verskillende tydskrifte. Die sirkulasiesyfers van sy boek, “Die Eerste Vyf Minute na die Dood”, het ongekende afmetings afgeneem en is in verskillende tale vertaal. 

 

Hy is een van die stigterslede van Christelike Televisie in Suid-Afrika en het gereeld oor televisie opgetree. Ook oor die radio en veral Radio Kansel word sy stem gereeld gehoor.

 

Hy was lid van die gasheer-komitee van Rustenburg 1 en mede-voorsitter van Rustenburg 2. Hy was lid van die reëlingskomitee asook spreker van SACLA 2. Hy was mede-voorsitter van die gasheer-komitee van die 20ste Wêreld Pinkster Konferensie wat in 2004 in Suid-Afrika gehou word.

 

Isak het reeds sedert die vroeë negentigs op die "Advisory Committee" van die World Pentecostal Fellowship gedien en is in 2004 verkies tot die Uitvoerende Komitee van hierdie liggaam. In September 2010 word hy as vise-voorsitter van die Pentecostal World Fellowship verkies tot met sy emeritaat in 2016.

 

Isak plaas 'n hoë premie op 'n gesonde en fikse liggaam en besoek die gimnasium gereeld. Hy geniet ook sy jaarlikse jag- en hengeltogte.

 

Hy is getroud met Heletia en die egpaar het drie kinders - 'n seun en twee dogters, asook 3 kleinkinders. Hulle woon in Silver Lakes in die Ooste van Pretoria.

Dr Isak Burger

Isak Burger was probably one of the longest serving church leaders in South Africa. He was chosen president of the AFM of SA in April 1988. Ever since he was re-elected - also after the racial integration and unification of the church in April 1996. He retired in September 2016.

He was born on 10 May 1951 in Cape Town, but grew up in Pretoria. He did his theological studies and doctorate at the theological faculty and Seminary of the Dutch Reformed Church at the University of Pretoria.

 

He pastored two churches from 1974 (Balfour and Witbank-Central) before he became a lecturer and registrar of the AFM Theological College in 1982.

 

Over the years Isak Burger became known as preacher and writer. He regularly speaks at interdenominational meetings as well as national and international conferences. He is author and co-author of a number of top selling books and numerous articles in magazines and newspapers. He’s book, “The First Five Minutes after Death” reached unprecedented circulation figures.

 

He is one of the founder-members of Christian television in South Africa and was often seen on TV. His voice is also regularly heard on radio.

 

For a number of years he had been a director of Radio Pulpit. He was member of the host-committee of the memorable Rustenburg 1 and co-chair of Rustenburg 2 conferences. He was also member of the steering committee and also speaker at SACLA 2. 

 

Isak is serving on the Advisory Committee of the World Pentecostal Fellowship since the early nineties and in 2004 was elected member of the executive of this esteemed body. He was co-chair of the host-committee of the 20th World Pentecostal Conference being held in South Africa in 2004. In October 2010 he was elected vice- chairperson of the Pentecostal World Fellowship until his retirement in 2016.

 

Isak places a high premium on a healthy and fit body and visits the gym regularly. He also enjoys his annual hunting and angling trips.

He is married to Heletia and they have three children - a son and two daughters as well as 3 grandchildren. They live in Silver Lakes in Pretoria.
